Memphis Songwriters Association

The Memphis Songwriters Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting songwriters both locally and aboard by providing a number of educational resources and exciting events. MSA has been in existence for over three decades and strives to be a valuable asset to the community and welcomes songwriters of all musical genres and experience levels. The organization was founded by Mrs. Estelle Axton, co-founder of STAX & Satellite Records, along with a group of aspiring songwriters. Ms. Estelle had a passion for music and motivating talented songwriters within the community to write songs that forever changed the world of music. The Memphis Songwriters Association has contributed to the development of many songwriters and musicians over the years and helped them to reach new heights with their songwriting endeavors. The organization focuses equally on both the craft of songwriting and the business of songwriting. The Memphis Songwriters Association welcomes beginners and professionals alike to become members of an organization that fosters developing relationships between songwriters, educators and music industry professionals within the community.

Milwaukee, WI NSAI Group

The NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) members of Milwaukee, WI, as well as some frequent visitors, have deliciously varied tastes and styles in their songwriting/music. They range from classic to contemporary country; folk/Americana; rock; contemporary Christian; and otherwise unclassified, unique creative pieces.

The NSAI office, based in Nashville, TN, provides informative and instructional information on the art and craft of songwriting, as well as the very important business aspects that are vital to reaching the ultimate goal of getting songs professionally recorded by major artists in various genres. (Although Nashville is the home of Country music, NSAI also serves songwriters in Christian, Rock, Pop, R & B, Latin and more!)

If you are a singer/songwriter/musician who lives in or around the Milwaukee area, we invite you to come check out one of our meetings! Come gather and network with others from our locale who have similar goals and aspirations in songwriting. Meetings are held the third Saturday each month from 10:00-1:00 inside a rehearsal hall at the great Cascio/Interstate Music Store, located on 138th and National Avenue in New Berlin, WI.

Halifax Regional Songwriters Group

I am Lisa Birt and the host of the “The Halifax Regional Songwriters Group”. This gathering sprung from of a core group of about 6-8 people, including myself, who never gave up on making the effort to continue to develop their songwriting skills.

We all met in 1999 when I joined the Songwriters Association of Nova Scotia. This organization met monthly and I organized the Showcases. Due to lack of participation from the board of directors, this group’s membership amalgamated with the Songwriters Association of Canada in 2001.  There was no more an organized group to attend in Nova Scotia.

These 6-8 committed songwriters found numerous spots over the period of the next 5 years, to get together & keep the creative juices flowing. We met at coffee houses mostly, but then I started a new organized group in 2006, when I applied to Songwriters of Canada, to be under their umbrella. I found a great venue who would host us and, since inception we have grown from our small 6-8 writers to well over 20 people in attendance per month. Many relationships have formed between the members, co-writers, music groups and a dedication to support each other in our craft.

I have had guest singer/songwriters to share their experiences, including the great Lennie Gallant, organized performance evenings for fellow writers to perform their works for the public, and try to provide meaningful and much on going education. One very talented lady in our group attended the prestigious Humber College Songwriting Week in July '08, in Ontario, Canada. This is sponsored by SAC (Songwriters Assoc. of Canada). She came home with the “Best Lyrics” Award out of all the attendees straight across Canada. Wow!!!

I am so proud of the group, and their commitment to keep on writing and sharing their work.  This group has an abundance of talent and I am confident that many hit songs have been written with more to come. We would love to have the chance for you to listen to a few of them.

Kindest regards and thank you for offering this great opportunity.

Winner

The winner of the final round of the All For the Group promotion is Joanna Butler of the Halifax Regional Songwriters Group, with her song, Sometimes a Daydream.
